Home / Local Sanford, NC News / Black Heritage Cemetery needs donations

SANFORD–The Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization, was formed in March of this year by three local residents who set out to restore an abandoned and neglected cemetery located behind the historic Buffalo Presbyterian Church on Carthage Street.  The group’s mission and passion is to restore honor and dignity to the more than 1500 individuals resting there, many of whom were slaves.  The Heritage Foundation believes that the rich history and heritage of loved ones should not be neglected or forgotten.  The foundation hopes that restoring cemeteries like the Black Heritage Community Cemetery will create an environment where families and friends can visit, study and learn the rich history that lies beneath the surface.  Help is needed to restore the cemetery.  Donations may be mailed to The Heritage Foundation, C/O Black Heritage Community Cemetery, P. O. Box 4982, Sanford, N. C. 27331.
