Lionel Richie‘s #1 debut on Billboard‘s Country Albums chart with Tuskegee has made some history. According to Yahoo! Music’s Chart Watch, Lionel is only the fourth African-American artist to top that chart. Charley Pride scored 12 #1 country albums between 1968 and 1980. Ray Charles hit #1 with his country duets album Friendship in 1985, and Darius Ruckerhas hit the top spot twice, in 2008 and 2010.

Lionel’s debut also makes him the only artist besides Ray Charles to hit #1 on the Billboard 200, the Top Country Albums chart and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart over the course of their career. Neither artist, however, did it with the same album from their discography.

Fans can see Lionel bring Tuskegee to life on the CBS special ACM Presents: Lionel Richie & Friends — In Concert, premiering Friday, April 13. Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean and Tim McGraw are among the stars appearing on that special.
