Carrie Underwood is known for her big power ballads like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “So Small,” but she says those kind of songs didn’t make the cut for her new album, Blown Away. It wasn’t that she was trying to avoid those kinds of songs, she just choose the songs she liked and let the record come together naturally.
“I honestly think it’s just because the album kind of makes itself,” she tells Vegas magazine. “We’ll look at the end and think what could we use more of, but it is what it is. I don’t think, Oh, I need this power ballad. If you can’t find a song like that, you don’t force it.”
Carrie has one quiet, story song on the album where doesn’t try to belt it out at all. She says, “I’m not trying to impress people with what I can do. I’ve done enough by now that I don’t have to sing to the moon with every single song.”
Carrie’s new album, Blown Away, comes out May 1 featuring the hit single, “Good Girl.”
