Fans aren’t just crazy about The Hunger Games movie; they’re also hungry for the film’s music. The soundtrack, featuring acts like Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert‘s group Pistol Annies and Maroon 5, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart with sales of 175,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
That makes The Hunger Games the first soundtrack from a theatrical film to reach #1 since Michael Jackson‘s This Is It debuted on top of the chart in 2009. It’s also the first soundtrack featuring multiple artists to reach #1 since the soundtrack from The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which also came out in 2009.
Overall, there have only been 16 soundtracks — including movies, TV and straight-to-video projects — that have ever debuted at #1 in the history of the Billboard 200 chart.
Meanwhile, “Eyes Open,” one of Taylor Swift’s two songs on the soundtrack, has debuted at #4 on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart with sales of 176,000 downloads. That’s her best sales week ever for a song since “Back to December” in 2010.
