CHAPEL HILL–Many Lee County residents, including Chamber of Commerce officials, attended a second public hearing on “fracking” Monday night in Chapel Hill. Another overflow crowd attended, echoing the hearing in Lee County last week. Many pros and cons were expressed during the meeting. Meanwhile, State Environmental officials said Tuesday afternoon that a phony email was sent to news media proclaiming that regulators had backed off their belief that a controversial method of drilling for natural gas could be done safely in North Carolina. Agency spokeswoman Diana Kees said officials haven’t determined who sent the fake email.
