(NEW YORK) — A JetBlue flight from New York to Las Vegas was diverted to Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday after the plane’s captain suffered from what the airline is calling a “medical situation.”
Flight 191, carrying approximately 140 passengers and crew members, took off Tuesday morning from John F. Kennedy International Airport headed to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. Less than three hours into the flight, the plane’s first officer declared an emergency involving the captain.
“Another Captain, traveling off duty, entered the flight deck prior to landing at Amarillo, and took over the duties of the ill Crewmember once on the ground,” JetBlue said early Tuesday afternoon in a statement to ABC News.
The flight came to a safe landing in Amarillo, where the captain was taken off and transported to a medical facility.
“Customers remain on board at this time,” the airline said. “JetBlue is working with local authorities and airport officials for the safe deplaning of the aircraft. JetBlue will send a new aircraft to continue the flight to LAS.”
