SANFORD–Susan Pennock, well-respected field consultant with Communities In Schools, opens a half-day roundtable Friday, March 23, by summarizing the effects of poverty and then discussing specific ways that mentors and volunteers can help. Compassion’12 is the fourth annual roundtable sponsored by United Way of Lee County. It will explain how teachers and volunteers can help neighbors escape poverty and enjoy happier, more successful futures. The event opens at 9 a.m at the McSwain center on Tramway Road.
