RALEIGH–The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued a draft report Friday that recommends legalizing hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking, in the state. The report comes on the heels of a public hearing Tuesday night at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center. According to the PILOT, State Representative Jamie Boles, who made a frack-finding trip to Pennsylvania earlier this year, said DENR’s findings echo his concerns. The hearing will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Several public interest groups have planned an on-site news conference prior to the hearing to discuss why they oppose this method of extracting natural gas from the earth.
