SANFORD–Tom Snell, 2012 president of the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce urges Lee County residents to attend a public hearing at the Dennis A. Wicker Center Tuesday evening on natural gas resources.  Earlier this week, the Chamber Board of Directors voted unanimously to support the responsible development of natural gas resources in the county.  Snell  noted that the Chamber Board reviewed reports from experts, talked with business people in other states and heard from many local landowners prior to making this decision.  Chamber President Bob Joyce said “our conclusion is that there are three major benefits–jobs, tax revenue and clean energy for our state.  We must properly address environmental regulations and develop plans for the temporary disruptions that come with drilling operations, however, these issues have been dealt with effectively by other communities so we have models to follow.”  The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. and an overflow crowd is anticipated.
