SANFORD–Ground is  scheduled to be broken in June for a brand new shopping center in Tramway.  Bobby Branch, owner of the property in question near the intersection  of Tramway Road and U.S. 1, said a shopping center with at least 50 acres will be built.  It will be larger than the Wal-mart Shopping Center which boasts a total of 31.32 acres and Riverbirch Corner, with 35.34 acres.  Branch said “aside from breaking ground on the shopping center, most of the other information circulating is just rumors.”  He said no  leases have been signed, and he did not name any anchor stores for the shopping center.  He said the Shopping center will not front U.S. 1, but will be cornered at NC 78 and U.S. 1.
