MONCURE–A one vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer is deemed very serious by the State Highway Patrol.  According to officials with DOT, a High Severity incident has been updated for US-1 northbound in Chatham County  south east of Pittsboro at mile marker 81.  The right lane is closed south of Pea Ridge Road (SR 1972) Exit 81.  The incident started at 1:09 P.M. Thursday and is expected to end at 5:00 P.M.  According to WRAL, the cab of a tractor-trailer was submerged in the Haw River after the truck ran off U.S. Highway 1 near the Wake-Chatham county line.  The empty flatbed truck  veered off the road before the bridge, and knocked down a highway sign before going down an embankment into the river.  The driver was still in the truck Thursday afternoon.  No word on his/her condition.  An air helicopter called to the scene was cancelled.
