SANFORD–Local educators and other business and community leaders are celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss today as they Read Across America. Gov. Bev Perdue proclaimed Friday, March 2, as Read Across America Day in North Carolina, part of a national effort to encourage children to read today and throughout the year. Read Across America Day promotes reading as the catalyst for students’ future academic success and their ability to compete in a 21st century global economy. The event also serves to encourage adults to get involved in childrens’ education as an investment in the well-being of their community and long-term quality of life.
