PITTSBORO-Taylor Hobbs of the firm working to restire the Chatham County
Courthouse after it was destroyed by fire nearly two years ago, said it has been
a long road but they are well on the way.
Hobbs said the rebuulding should be completed before Christmas of this
year, and if all goes well, the roofing will be done by summer. Interior
rebuilding has already begun with an eye to restoring the courthouse on
how it looked in the early 1900s.
The new courthouse will have a greater emphasis on natural lighting, though
overhead lamps will remain, and the outside will feature a bright new color
scheme as well. The courthouse will be brighter in many ways, with a teal
green trim that adorned the exterior years ago.
