PITTSBORO–As the Chatham County Board of Commissioners considered changes
in the county’s Watershed Protection Ordinance, more than a dozen
residents urged the board not to weaken existing protections.
Commissioners were considering changing the protections on ephemeral
streams and following public comments, the board put the matter to vote.
In a 3-2 vote, the board approved changes that opponents said would
jeopardize drinking water quality in Jordan Lake.
