Home / Music News / In Vegas, Celine Dion’s Loss is Shania Twain’s Gain

On Wednesday, Celine Dion came down with laryngitis and was forced to cancel the performance of her Las Vegas show, Celine, at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.  It’s the first show the diva has had to cancel in four years, according to the Las Vegas Sun, but it proved to be a positive development for fellow Canadian superstar Shania Twain.

According to the Sun, Shania had flown into Vegas to see Celine’s show and Elton John‘s show as well in preparation for her own residency at the Colosseum, which starts December 1.  But after Celine canceled — and so did Elton, a few days earlier, due to food poisoning — the theater was left wide open for Shania to “walk, dance and sing onstage.”

A source told the paper, “She wanted to get the feel of the building.  She wanted to know where her band and the crew would be hanging out when she comes to town.  She saw the dressing rooms and checked the sound system.  She’s really excited, and everybody already knows she’s on the right track.”
